Amid all the mudslinging and heated debates about which is better – Windows or Mac – this article might just help you make up your mind. Here are ten reasons why I think you should switch to Mac from Windows operating system.
1.Anti-virus software:
So far, only one virus has been detected on Mac OS. In comparison, Windows Vista is only beginning to get User Account Protection. Mac OS X is based on OpenBSD which means administrator privileges are not needed for running programs and other uses.
2.Internet Explorer 7:
Internet Explorer or Firefox can hardly compete with Safari available on Mac OS. Being the only browser to pass the ACID-2 test, Safari complies with the highest possible standards. Obviously, it makes more sense to opt for Mac rather than Windows.
3.Interesting Features
Windows is trying to match up with the attractive, interactive and fantastic features offered by Mac OS but it still lags behind to a large extent.
4.Desktop Issues
Mac operating system has amazing desktop search tools but on Windows, its still done by the original search guys – Google. Windows 2000/XP allows a free download of Google Desktop.
5.Software updates
While Windows is now just handling the issue of software updates, Mac always had it right. Thankfully, this operating system doesn’t make you access operating system updates through a web browser like Windows.
6.Media Features:
You can now get a new media player, photo manager and DVD creation software with Windows OS. Every Mac OS provides features like iTunes, iDVD, iPhoto and even, iWeb, all free of cost.
7.Parental Authorization
While I never had to use it, Mac OS does include parental control tools for restricting access to certain websites or folder by children below a certain age.
8.Strong Backup:
Mac makes it simple to save and shift your documents from one place to another on the PC. It’s as easy as Copy and Paste. Unlike Windows, your data is not stored in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Company\Program\file name. All you need to do is select the home directory and move it where you want to create a backup. Your settings and documents will go along with it.
9.Peer-to-peer Connectivity:
Another great feature of Mac operating system gives power of real-time communication and collaboration to users.
10.OS Setup:
If you talk about setup procedure, there’s no comparison between Mac and Windows. Mac OS comes preinstalled with PowerBook and will rarely give you reason to reinstall it. On the other hand, Windows has probably already taken away hours or days of your life in reinstalling the operating system to make it faster.
Even as Windows tries to catch up with Mac by introducing new features, you’re better off with a Mac OS that is better tested. Switching from Windows to Mac is not as difficult as it seems. In fact, the exercise can be smoothly executed. If you are looking for a new PC, consider a Mac because it has features and applications that will make you go wow!
