There are lots of free Video Software but these 6 really stand out from the bunch. Most of them are totally free, only Real Player 11 which if you want all the features require some subscription.
1.GOM Media Player
GOM Media Player is a free downloable media player with the capacity to play nearly all media files such as AVI, DAT, MPEG, DivX, XviD, WMV, ASF.
Unlike some other players the user doesn’t need to download codec separately because mostly all come with the player. Other features of this product are, being able to play damage files by skipping the frame, it can also play partially downloaded files ( very useful feature). Als other features, enhanced filter rendering, editable skins,overlay mixer and many more.
In my humble opinion, the only wrong i saw was an awkward startup sometimes and the weak library capablities. But for anyone who doesn’t want to go through the mess of finding codecs etc they should definatly get this

2.FLV Player
Many people today love to have an flv player and the best and most reliable in my opinion is this. The FLV flash player is a tool to play all flv type of media. The new 2.0.25 version adds the ability to hide all Interface elements so you can have more enjoyable experience with the media but you can still move the window around with the mouse and use commands such as forward , pause etc with the default keys. If you want to watch all your favorite online media this might be the best application for you. Simple , effective.

3.VLC Media Player
Similar to the GOM in it’s ability to read just about anything . This can also be used as a server for multicast stream. Also it’s simple and open foundation ( code) makes it easy to update. So there are lots of patches , fixes by the community. The only con i heard is that people don’t like the fact that there is no skin but they have added a few and they seem to introduce some bugs. But i am not going to rate the product from a plug in , still a useful tool for media savvy people.

4.RealPlayer
RealPlayer has always been about being able to have great playlists , nice and organized librarys . But with the option to download videos , podcasts everything from the web directly to RealPlayer is one of the best feature of this franchise. When you download the media you want from the web you can also burn it. The few bad things i heard about this classic player is : complexity , the problems faced in this might be only solvable by a real pro and this may turn the casual off. Many will say your better of with Itunes a familiar applicaton but with more simplicity, i do agree.

5.BS.Player
The name doesn’t do it any good but this little media player is just great for those who like have their own custom settings etc..With a wide variety of features such as : plays all types of media file, great at divx playback, custom subtitle position, display subtitles, resizable window, transparent skins and abroad of other things that would please anyone picky. But if all the extra settings don’t matter for you , this doesn’t really bring anything new to the table.

6.The KMPlayer
In a crowded section of application, The KMPlayer for many is the second resort after GOM, by many even considered the only challenger for GOM. The KMPlayer is another player like BS where lots of the features are intern settings changes. The ability to capture video , audio and screenshot is very nice and on top of that it is very simplistic. A bad thing is that it can’t burn movies onto CDs or DVDs. But for me this is the next best thing after GOM.
