in Hosting

Many times when working on web development there will be 2 types of operating-systems for a server, Windows and Linux. Whenever you hear Windows Server and Linux Server, you are just hearing the different operating systems the server will be running on. This can be a big deal if you have certain expectations. Usually there is one main question here, that which one is better? Or which one should a person work on? There is really no answer to this. It depends more on the developer and also on what he is trying to achieve.

Common Features in both –

There are a few common features both Linux and windows will provide. Like - How you can transfer your files, for this both Linux and windows support FTP access to transfer, edit or delete files. Both of these operating systems can provide some of the same file types. HTML and JavaScript, both are commonly used on both platforms. So, you can also run “CGI” in Linux and windows. “CGI” is an application that is very similar to program, in C# or Perl. This can help with dynamic contents and forms, usually used with shopping carts. PHP & MySQL can run on both Windows and Linux, but these 2 web development languages are more common on Linux.

Linux Operating System Server –

Linux Web Hosting is doubtlessly the most used server operating system available in the market. Developers are in love with Linux because it is open source & will support PHP and MySQL perfectly. The benefit of all of these great features is that Linux, MySQL and PHP is all FREE! They cost nothing and are all open source applications.

MySQL and PHP can both be coded together to make anything possible. PHP can run on different platforms, but most of the time it is run through Linux platform. They use the same tags and attributes like HTML, but you can include scripts and functions to be run on the server side. Making Dynamic pages that will pull data, insert data, or modify data in a MySQL table. PHP can also support different tables such as Oracle, Solid, Postgre, SQL, Sybase, and Generic ODBC.

Which Web Operating System is better?

Looking at some of the features, neither is better than the other. There are just some advantages and disadvantages of both. Finding what your website needs is the decision maker. Windows or Linux can both be used for your advantage. Some web developers love to use one or the other because of what they are used to. Some web developers only use one or the other because of the coding language they will be using. Remember there are pros and cons to both, but a website is made by the web developer, not the operating system.
